Exhibit: Sound Advice

Exhibit: Sound Advice In-Person

Explore Sound Advice and discover what it truly means to hear—and to be heard.

Sound Advice was created to spark curiosity and compassion around the often misunderstood world of hearing loss. Through intimate interviews and portraits, this exhibit shares the stories of 15 individuals—from a vibrant 6-year-old to a wise 96-year-old, and the owner of a deaf dog. Their experiences challenge assumptions, uncover humor, resilience, and unexpected beauty, and reveal how hearing loss is far more diverse and human than statistics alone can show.

Photographer Nancy Rubin is passionate about teaching, photography, and travel. She taught in public high schools for 32 years, beginning as a specialist for visually impaired students. Her teaching and students are featured in the documentary Hi I’m Nancy Rubin (MAX) and her book Ask Me If I Care: Voices from an American High School. See more of her work at nancyjrubin.com.
